Coach of Villarreal Unai Emery says on loan Real Madrid winger Takefusa Kubo need to do more if he want to be a regular in his team this season.

The coach was instrumental to the signing of the 19 year old after his impressive showing for Mallorca last season but so far he has been reduced to the role of a substitute.

Emery didn’t mince words when he was asked about the future of the teen at his club saying he presently offers little to the team hinting that unless he step up his game, he won’t get more playing time.

“We are not here to give a player ten games in a row if he doesn’t perform.” said Emery. “He is given a match and he must earn more. It is valid for the youth players and for everyone. There is a requirement here and that is to win. “

Other reports in the Spanish media claimed the coach has already had talks with the representative of Kubo where he told them that he is free to leave the team in the January transfer window.

The move will no doubt pave the way for Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze to get more game time as Kubo was among the players in direct contention for playing time with the Nigerian.

Villarreal are having an excellent season as they are currently 4th on the LaLiga standings just six points behind leaders Atletico Madrid. They are also on an unbeaten run of 19 games.
