A non governmental organisation (NGO) Waves of Success Foundation has successfully completed a 2 days medical outreach which catered for over 2500 sick people at Lokoja and Ayingba in Kogi State.
The outreach which took place at the Adankolo community of Lokoja on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th 2018,at Ayingba, witnessed a turnout of almost 2500 people, most of whom were in dire need of medical attention.
The Founder of the NGO Yusuf Okpanachi Ocholi popularly known as Pablo in a press briefing held at the location expressed his satisfaction as he said that they had prepared for this to ensure that whomever comes get adequate check and treatment. He was also present at the venue to monitor progress.
“We are giving free medical treatment because it is when you are a life and healthy that you can pursue your goals and achieve success. Health is the foundation of wealth. We started from the basic requirement for success which is sound health”, He said.
“Today, we have attended to about 1500 people and we are prepared to attend to as much who show up tomorrow at Our Lady of Schools in Anyigba. Adequate provision has been made for the outreach.
The Medical Team Leader, Dr Kelechi Okoro, said the diseases diagnosed and treated include hypertension, diabetes, malaria, arthritis, pneumonia, ulcer and free eye testing.
“We have adequate doctors and other medical personnel on ground to screen people, treat and give free drugs and eye glasses to those who need them.
“We are attending to women, children, youths, even the men and old people.
“Children are being de-wormed, and treated of malaria, while adults are being diagnosed and treated of hypertension, diabetes and arthritis, among others.
“We are also enlightening them on family planning and how to prevent unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, among others,” Okoro said.
Chief David Agbayi, the Echu of Adankolo, commended the NGO for bringing the outreach to his domain to alleviate the sufferings of indigent people.
“I want to say a great thank you to the organisers for making it a reality and changing the health story of our community.
“I am also a beneficiary; free drugs and eye glasses were given to me after I was diagnosed, I cannot see far object, I have itching-eye, fever and ulcer.
“This is the first of its kind that people are being diagnosed, treated and giving drugs and glasses at no cost. I want other NGOs to emulate this good legacy,” the monarch said.
Another beneficiary, Malam Umar Musa, who was treated of fever and body pain, told NAN: “I feel excited and happy to be part of this programme.”
A widow, Ms Jumai Usman, who also received eye-glasses, said: “I was diagnosed and given free eye-glass and drugs, I give kudos to the NGO for their goodwill towards us.”
In his concluding statement, The founder of Waves of Success Foundation stated that the aim of the NGO Waves of Success Foundation is to get as many people off the street as possible. With its health, education, sport, artisan and LAK (little Acts of Kindness) initiatives, the NGO will sensitize and alleviate people in the community from poverty.
The turnout in Ayingba was equally impressive with over 1000 children, women, and men receiving free treatment.
He also stated that the outreach will be extended to Okene and Kabba community of the state.
Furthermore, people with special cases were referred to a federal hospital with an intent that the Foundation takes up the bill.
In conclusion, he added that the rate of poverty in the land is alarming and until one stretch out one’s hand to give, one will never know how many people wants to receive. The NGO will now go and prepare for its upcoming football five aside coming up sometime in December.
