Embattled coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says his team in the past one year met all expectations as doubts continue to surround his stay as coach of the team.

Rohr revealed he was told by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to resign from his role but he turned it down insisting on the football house formally terminating his deal as coach.

For now the financial implication of terminating his deal which has a year to run appears to be a tall ask as for the cash strapped NFF and it’s looking likely that the coach will lead Nigeria to the AFCON.

Taking stock at the year under the review, the coach played down criticism of his team’s display over the past one year citing their record of winning all away games and also losing just a game which was the shock 0-1 loss to Central Africa Republic (CAR).

“We played eight qualifiers including two for Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the remaining six for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

“Altogether, we had six victories, one draw and one defeat. But don’t forget we won all the four away games”, he was quoted as saying by the NationSport.
