The senior national team of Nigeria will join the rest of Africa in the race to be at the world cup 2026 when the qualifiers for the tournament begin in November, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria failed to make it to the last world cup in Qatar after losing on away goal rule to Ghana in the play off. Hence all hands are expected to be on deck to ensure that the same scenario doesn’t happen in 2026.
Head coach of the team Jose Peseiro has also sounded the importance of making it to the tournament that will be hosted by the USA , Mexico and Canada. It will be the first time that the tournament is hosted by three different nations and it will be the very first time that the event will be contested in Canada.
During the qualifiers for the last world cup, the team played all their group games in Lagos but the crucial play-off game against Ghana was played at the national stadium in Abuja. This time around they will begin their campaign at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
A date which is 16th of November has also been picked for the game and not the widely reported 17th, four days later they will be away to Zimbabwe in Rwanda at their adopted home ground in Kigali.
