One of the foreign based players called up to the U20 team of Nigeria Balogun Azeez won’t be honouring the invitation as he has been told by his Brazilian team Sao Paulo to shun the tournament.

He was expected to be a part of the foreign based players who will be joining the camp of the Nigeria U20 team next week but that isn’t possible per what we exclusively gathered from team officials of the Nigeria U20 team.

Sao Paulo of Brazil signed the 19 year old on a loan deal with the option of making the deal permanent in February. He has made progress towards getting into the first team, which is one of the conditions for a permanent deal.

That rise is also part of the reasons why he won’t be allowed to join the U20 team of Nigeria for the U20 AFCON which will run from the 19th of February to the 11th of March in Egypt. The tournament serves as the qualifiers for the U20 World Cup.

” We have been told he won’t be released for the tournament in Egypt by his Brazilian team Sao Paulo because he is already making inroads to the main team and going away now might hurt his progress. We understand and wish him the best but on our part we are still focus on getting the best result in Egypt”, a source in the camp of the Nigerian team told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
