Pep Guardiola’s father has explained why he does not want his son to coach the Spanish national team.

Guardiola has enjoyed great success in his coaching career with the likes of FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now Manchester City.

It remains to be seen where the 49-year-old will go next after his time with the Citizens comes to an end, but his father is hoping that he does not take charge of La Furia Roja at any point.

“No,” Valenti Guardiola told Radio Villa Trinidad when asked if he would like to see his son coach Spain.

“I’m no one to say what he should do, because he’s about to turn 50 and knows what’s good for him to do and what’s not.

“But yes, I can tell you that I don’t want him to lead the Spanish national team, I don’t think so.

“To return to Barcelona as a coach or a person in an advisory position I wouldn’t rule out, but not to Spain.”
